About SnowPrep

SnowPrep publishes independent rankings and comparisons of snow blowers, shovels, heaters and the rest of the winter kit, built on one transparent scoring rubric.

What we do

We do not sell snow blowers and we do not run a test lab. We read every owner thread, manual and long-term test we can find for each machine, score it on the same five factors, and cite the sources on its page (76 sources across 25 machines so far). Every entry says when to walk past.

How we score

Reliability · 30%

Does it keep working after year one? We weight recurring failure themes from long-term owner reports on Reddit, forums, and multi-month videos above anything a launch-week review can measure.

Performance · 25%

Does it do the core job well? Manufacturer specs are checked against category norms and validated against owner-reported and long-term reviewer results.

Usability · 20%

Setup, app quality, daily friction. App-store rating trends, setup complaints, and support-ticket themes all count.

Value · 15%

Price versus what the tier actually delivers. Running costs — filters, blades, subscriptions — count too, not just sticker price.

Support & ecosystem · 10%

Warranty length, parts availability, firmware update cadence, and how the brand responds when things go wrong.

What we never do

• No paid placements. No sponsored ranks, no paid badges, no brand-supplied copy.
• No live prices from Amazon. MSRP only; the checkout price is the one that counts.
• No stock claims. A discontinued model is labelled with the fact and the year, nothing more.
• No product photos we did not take. Until a real photograph exists, a machine is shown by its numbers.
